Recent studies by the University of Toronto and Harvard University revealed that daily intake of flaxseed has been proven to potentially reduce the growth of breast cancer
tumors. Flaxseed is also high in Omega-3 fatty acids, which some studies have shown to help decrease the risk of death from breast cancer. Research has also shown that
women who regularly eat foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids over many years are less likely to develop breast cancer.
Flaxseed is one of the richest sources of lignans, which acts as phytoestrogen and has been shown in some lab studies to interfere with mammary breast tumor formations. Two recent studies 1,2 have found that women with breast cancer had significantly lower levels of lignan phytoestrogen, a chemical found in flaxseeds.
